Gubeikou Great Wall

The Gubeikou section of the Great Wall is located on the southeast of Gubeikou Town, Miyun County. This section is composed of Crouching Tiger Mountain (Wohushan) section, Curled-up Dragon Mountain (Panlongshan) section, and a small portion of the Simatai section. It was built in 555 A.D. in the Northern Qi Dynasty from Yulin River of Shaanxi Province on the west to Shanhaiguan, with an area of about 1,500 kilometers.

The Gubeikou Great Wall was an important strategic pass linking the southern and northern areas of the Yanshan Range. There, 360 soldiers who fought in the Geigukou War of Resistance are buried.

There are 143 beacon towers in the Gubeikou Great Wall that have an average height of 156 meters. The two closest are only 30 meters apart. The inside of these towers differ from one another in design. Some have a flat ceilings, are arched, domed or painted. Each tower has two floors, six archways, and ten arched doors, which allow the garrisoned soldiers to advance and retreat freely. The towers also vary in size. The largest one can accommodate a garrison of 100 soldiers, while the smallest holds a garrison of 10 soldiers.
