Hong Kong Ocean Park is located in Wong Chuk Hang and Nanm Long Shan in the Southern District of Hong Kong. It has an area of 91.5 hectares. Opened on October 10th, 1997, it is a world-renowned theme park with sea and land animals, mobile games and large-scale performances. It's also the most populated theme park in the world.

The park is separated by a large mountain into two areas, The Summit (Headland) and The Waterfront (Lowland). These areas can be reached by cable car or the Ocean Express funicular railway. In 2012, HK Ocean Park was awarded the “2012 Applause Award” (the best theme park in the world) by IAAPA, for becoming the first theme park with this reputation in Asia.

Introductions of Attractions

“Mine Train” and “The Abyss” will make you boost your energy level and excitement. The Abyss raises passengers up 60 meters (the height of 20 floors) in 20-25 seconds before thrusting them downwards at a speed of up to 65km/h, faster than a free-fall.

The theme park has over 2 million visitors each year. Visitors can reach attractions in the park by crane or escalator where passengers can appreciate the coral through the glass. In addition to Dolphin Show and High Diving Hare, you can see seals and penguins, and rare animals such as small pandas, giant salamanders, and Chinese alligators, also visit The Aviaries, Shark Aquarium and Butterfly House, and experience exciting rides like the roller coaster. Children can also play in the playground.

Hong Kong Ocean Park

It seems that everything in this park includes the Ocean Aquarium, Shark Aquarium, Ocean Theater, and 200-meter-high Ocean Park Tower, and a hillside cable car and escalator with a view of the sea. The “sea view” drop tower is much more of a challenge than other parts of the park because participants experience a 60-meter vertical free-fall.

The well-known Trubo Drop is also called “The Abyss.” Along the escalator, visitors arrive at the mobile games district and the Trubo Drop is one of the most popular rides.

Travelers that are courageous might as well ride the roller coaster which is one of the most thrilling amusement activities in the world. People sitting on the left seats might fly above the sea. Another ride worth mentioning is “Mine Train”- an earth-shaped roller coaster with curves and slopes. Actually, it is similar to a roller coaster but is much slower. However, the slower speed makes it more frightening resulting in louder screams from passengers.

When going downhill, it is a must to take the world-famous cable car, where you can cross mountains and seas. It is a great opportunity to take pictures and videos of the scenery. If you are there at night, it is even better because you have the chance to see HK's night landscape.

Opening Hours

  • On weekdays: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • On weekends and public holidays: 10:00 am to 7:00 pm

Tips

  • 1. Hong Kong Ocean Park is open all year round.
  • 2. Escalator and Ocean Express Funicular Railway stop service at 6:00 pm.

In the front and back of the park, there is an entrance respectively. If you enter the park by the front entrance, you will first go by Whale and Dolphin Conservation Square, Lowland Garden, and Kid’s World, and then take a cable car to the mobile games district. If you enter through the back entrance at Tai Shue Wan, you will first go to the Middle Kingdom and take the escalator, passing by Adventure Land before arriving at the mobile games district.
