Suzhou gardens

As one of the cultural relics of national importance in China, Lingering Garden is featured with man-made mountains and lake scenery. Walk at the winding roofed walkway with the changing view at every step, as if you will be able to experience the way of life of the ancients. Move on to Panmen Scenic Area, famous for its complex of both land and water city gates.

After lunch, try a different way to explore the city, a rickshaw tour around Suzhou, through narrow lanes and alleys, down by the canal and along some old streets to see the everyday life of locals.

Close the day with a leisure walk at Pingjiang Road, which is regarded as the epitome of Suzhou with its small bridges, bluestone roads, mottled old house and numerous snack and craft shops.

Optional evening activity: Night Show in the Master of Nets Garden (There are 8 night shows from 19:30 to 22:00 in the Master of Nets Garden. Each show will last for about 10 minutes and the guests can enjoy the shows whenever they join in. Actors and actress in ancient theatrical costumes of generous local styles play the local folk music and folk dancing for the guests in the halls or pavilions, representing a fantastic scene of "One show in one hall, shows changing while guests changing".)

Rickshaw tour in Suzhou

Take a morning tour to Taihu Bi Luo Chun Tea Plantation, where you will experience picking of tea leaves, panfrying of tea and to sample a few cups of Biluochun green tea.

After lunch, you will take a tour to Suzhou Silk Museum, which vividly combines the ancient and the modern styles of silk weaving together with the theme being "Silk Road". Many traditional silk looms, fragments of silk from various Dynasties, ancient silk garments, and a large number of modern silk products are on display. With a better understanding of the Chinese silk, Suzhou embroidery learning at Silk Embroidery Research Institute is arranged for you. In the exhibition area of the institute, admire some gorgeous needle-painted pictures. Then, take a closer look at how it is done by those experienced embroiderers there. Afterwards, try your hands at it with the guidance of the teacher.

Suzhou embroidery

Though most of the water towns near Suzhou are over-commercialized, Tongli retains its authentic and quaint atmosphere. Tongli Water Town is home to tranquil classical gardens, idyllic canals, traditional rowboats and ancient Bridges, as well as numerous historic buildings. A boat cruise is arranged for you to see the waterside life of the locals as many locals still live here.
