28 days/4 Weeks China itinerary to the Southern China
Shanghai, Yellow Mt., Hangzhou, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, Chengdu, Xian and Beijing
Day 1: Arrive in Shanghai and check into your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring the Bund, a famous waterfront area known for its colonial architecture.
Day 2: Visit the Yuyuan Garden, a classical Chinese garden in the heart of Shanghai. In the afternoon, explore the French Concession, an area with a mix of European and Chinese architecture.
Day 3: Take a day trip to Zhujiajiao Water Town, an ancient water town located about an hour away from Shanghai.
Yellow Mountain (Huangshan)
Day 4: Take a train or a bus from Shanghai to Huangshan. Check into your hotel and rest for the afternoon.
Day 5: Explore the Yellow Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its natural beauty and stunning views. Take the cable car up to the summit and hike around the mountain.
Day 6: Visit Hongcun Village, an ancient village known for its traditional architecture.
Day 7: Take a train or a bus from Huangshan to Hangzhou. Check into your hotel and spend the afternoon exploring the West Lake, a scenic lake surrounded by gardens and temples.
Day 8: Visit the Lingyin Temple, one of the largest and oldest Buddhist temples in China. In the afternoon, explore Hefang Street, a pedestrian street known for its shops and traditional snacks.
Day 9: Take a flight from Hangzhou to Zhangjiajie. Check into your hotel and rest for the afternoon.
Day 10-11: Visit the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique rock formations and stunning views. Take the cable car up to the summit and hike around the park.
Day 12: Visit Tianmen Mountain, a scenic area known for its glass skywalk and stunning views.
Day 13: Take a flight from Zhangjiajie to Guilin. Check into your hotel and rest for the afternoon.
Day 14-16: Explore the Li River, a scenic river known for its karst mountains and picturesque villages. Take a bamboo raft or a cruise down the river and visit Yangshuo, a small town known for its stunning natural scenery.
Day 17: Visit the Reed Flute Cave, a limestone cave known for its colorful lighting and rock formations.
Day 18: Take a flight from Guilin to Chengdu. Check into your hotel and rest for the afternoon.
Day 19: Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a conservation center where you can see pandas up close and learn about their conservation efforts.
Day 20: Take a flight from Chengdu to Xi'an. Check into your hotel and rest for the afternoon.
Day 21: Visit the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China.
Day 22: Explore the ancient city walls of Xi'an, which date back to the Ming Dynasty.
Day 23: Take a flight from Xi'an to Beijing. Check into your hotel and rest for the afternoon.
Day 24: Visit the Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the former imperial palace of China.
Day 25: Visit the Great Wall of China, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most iconic landmarks in China. There are different sections of the wall to visit, such as Badaling, Mutianyu, or Jinshanling, depending on your preference.
Day 26: Explore the Temple of Heaven, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a complex of religious buildings where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would hold their annual ceremonies.
Day 27: Visit Tiananmen Square, one of the largest city squares in the world and an important site in Chinese history. In the afternoon, explore the Summer Palace, a complex of gardens and palaces that served as a retreat for emperors during the hot summer months.
Day 28: Depart from Beijing, Check out of your hotel and head to the airport for your departing flight.
