Fujian Province, abbreviated as "Min" and often referred to as the "Land of Eight Min", is located along the southeastern coast of China. Centered around its capital, Fuzhou, it faces Taiwan across the strait. With over 90% of its land covered by mountains and hills, Fujian is famously described as "eight parts mountain, one part water, and one part farmland".

As the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, Fujian holds profound historical significance. It is not only the ancestral home of many overseas Chinese but also a land of breathtaking beauty. From the emerald water and red cliffs of Wuyi Mountain to the eclectic international architecture of Gulangyu Island, every landscape tells a vivid tale of harmony between mountains and sea, captivating visitors from around the world.

2-day Fujian Itinerary

Fujian ItineraryXiamen

Most of Fujian's attractions are concentrated along the coast, and travel between cities typically requires at least an hour by car. Therefore, a short two-day trip is not enough to fully experience the province's charm, and visitors will need to prioritize which destinations to visit.

Generally, itineraries are planned around two main hubs: Xiamen and Fuzhou. Popular surrounding areas include Nanjing, Dongshan, and Quanzhou near Xiamen, and Pingtan, Putian, and Xiapu near Fuzhou. For those wishing to explore deeper into the inland heart of Fujian, such as Wuyi Mountain, a longer journey is required.

4-day Fujian Itinerary

A four-day trip in Fujian generally follows one of two types of itineraries. The first is an in-depth exploration of a single destination, such as Xiamen, Pingtan Island, or Dongshan Island. The second option is a fast-paced journey, visiting a different city each day to experience Fujian's charm from multiple angles, such as a coastal route of Fuzhou–Putian–Quanzhou–Xiamen.

For destinations rich in cultural and natural heritage, like the photography heaven of Xiapu County, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Wuyi Mountain, and the Oriental Ancient Castle Fujian Tulou, a more leisurely schedule is recommended to truly appreciate their depth and beauty.

5-day Fujian Itinerary

Fujian ItineraryWuyi Mountain

If you have ample time, you can fully enjoy Fujian's breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural atmosphere. Typically, most travelers to Fujian will dedicate at least a full day, to Wuyishan National Park, where highlights like Jiuqu River, Tianyou Peak, Wuyi Palace, and Da Hong Pao tea culture make it a destination well worth deeper exploration.

Xiamen Island and Pingtan Island are also ideal for a more immersive experience, each offering their own blend of coastal charm, cultural richness, and laid-back island vibes.

7-day Fujian Itinerary

Fujian ItineraryShaolin Monastery

A week is more than enough to satisfy any traveler visiting Fujian. From the emerald waters and red cliffs of Wuyi Mountain, to the international architecture of Gulangyu Island, the glowing Blue Tears of Pingtan Island, and the sacred Mazu Temple on Meizhou Island, Fujian's scattered gems can be enjoyed without the pressure of a rushed itinerary, with delights awaiting at every stop.

Of course, Fujian's charm goes far beyond that. Whether it's Gushan and Guling in Fuzhou, the Jimei School Village in Xiamen, the Southern Shaolin Monastery in Quanzhou, or the famous Shaxian Snack in Sanming, everyone can discover a way to enjoy Fujian that speaks to them.

10-day Fujian Itinerary

If you have ten days or even more, consider embarking on a round tour around Fujian, traveling from its coastal cities deep into the inland regions to truly experience the province's diverse landscapes and local cultures.

Also, You can extend the above-mentioned itineraries, such as from Xiapu to Mount Taimu in Fuding, from Wuyishan to Dajin Lake in Taining, from Nanjing to explore more Tulou clusters in Yongding, or from Xiamen to Kinmen Island of Quanzhou.

More Kind of Themed Itinerary

Fujian ItineraryXiapu Photo

As a key stopover along the East Asia–Australasia migratory bird flyway, Fujian, with its lush vegetation and abundant greenery, has naturally become an important haven for birds. This makes the province a prime destination for birdwatching, offering people a chance to connect with and learn about the natural world.

Fujian Xiapu, a place favored by glowing sunsets and tidal rhythms, boasts some of the most iconic coastal landscapes in China. Here, the grandeur of the sea meets the elegance of inland waters, blending natural beauty with local culture. For this reason, Xiapu is also hailed as an international paradise for tidal flat photography.

Across Fujian's picturesque landscapes, countless natural gems lie nestled among the mountains, quietly awaiting nature lovers to discover them. Free from the noise and chaos of urban life, these places reflect nature in its purest and most untouched form—making Fujian a true haven for hiking and outdoor enthusiasts.
