6 days highlights of Beijing

Day 1: Arrive in Beijing and check into your hotel. Visit the Forbidden City and the nearby Jingshan Park.

Day 2: Visit the Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square in the morning. In the afternoon, take a rickshaw tour of the hutongs (traditional alleyways) and visit a local family's home.

Day 3: Take a day trip to the Great Wall of China. You can choose to visit the popular sections like Badaling or Mutianyu, or take a hike on a less-crowded section like Jiankou or Gubeikou.

Day 4: Visit the Summer Palace and the Old Summer Palace. Explore the local art and antique markets in the afternoon.

Day 5: Visit the National Museum of China, and the Capital Museum. Take a walk around the Olympic Park and the Water Cube in the evening.

Day 6: Take a day trip to the Ming Tombs and the Sacred Way. Return to Beijing in the evening and prepare for your departure.

Day 1: Arrive in Beijing and check into your hotel. Visit the iconic Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, which was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Day 2: Start the day with a visit to the Temple of Heaven, an imperial complex of religious buildings where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would offer sacrifices to the gods. After lunch, explore the Hutongs, traditional alleyways and courtyard houses that are a unique feature of Beijing's architecture.

Day 3: Take a day trip to the Great Wall of China, one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Choose a section of the wall to explore, such as the popular sections at Mutianyu or Jinshanling.

Day 4: Visit the Summer Palace, a beautiful imperial garden and palace complex located on the outskirts of Beijing. Take a boat ride on the lake and explore the many pavilions and halls.

Day 5: Visit the Capital Museum, which houses a collection of ancient artifacts and works of art from the capital's history. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Peking duck dinner and a traditional Chinese opera performance.

Day 6: Before departing Beijing, visit the 798 Art District, an area filled with galleries and studios showcasing the works of contemporary Chinese artists. Take a stroll around the area, and visit some of the galleries that interest you. Depart Beijing in the evening.
