Usually we suggest visitors to stay at least 2 days in Chengdu to cover the main sites (panda base, Jinli Ancient Street or Kuanzhai Alley, Wuhou Ancestral Hall, Jinsha Site Museum and People’s Park).If you are panda fanatics, you may spend at least 1 more day to take the one-day panda keeper program. If you are Buddhist, you may spend 2 more days to cover the Leshan Giant Buddha and Mt. Emei.
Chengdu is known for the hometown of cute giant pandas and also famous for spicy food.
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Jinli Ancient Street, Kuanzhai Lane, People’s Park, Wuhou Ancestral Hall, Dujiangyan Panda Base Dujiangyan Irrigation System and Jinsha Site Museum are popular among visitors.
Chengdu is suitable for travel all year round, but spring and autumn offers more comfortable experience due to the mild weather.
You could take the bus at New South Gate or West Gate Bus Station or take the flight. The bus fee is around CNY100-CNY150.
A summary of the weather of Chengdu might read "an early spring, a hot summer, a cool autumn and a warm (relative to surrounding areas) winter". The average mid-winter temperature (January is the coldest month) lies between 3–8 degrees Celsius, while the average summer temperature (July being the hottest month) lies between 22–29 degrees Celsius.
Snow is rarely seen in Chengdu.
Jinli Ancient Street, Kuanzhai Lane and Chunxi Road are the gathering places for delicious foods in Chengdu. You can also see various kinds of ingredients of Sichuan Cuisine, learn the food culture in Chengdu, taste various local snacks and take a cooking lesson at Sichuan Cuisine Museum, which is about an hour drive from Chengdu city.
There are all kinds of souvenirs related to pandas, such as costumes, shoes and hats, backpacks, key chains, ornaments, stationery, etc. You can find them easily at Chunxi Road, Kuanzhai Alley and Jinli Ancient Street etc.
Rabbit head, Dandan noodles, Mala soup with skewers, hot pot, Mapo tofu, Tofu pudding and dumping are what you should not miss in Chengdu.
