How would you plan a 14-day trip to Kunming? We offer both a 14-day itinerary with in the city and a 14-day itinerary that includes Kunming's surrounding areas. Besides city attractions like the Stone Forest, Dianchi Lake, Cui Lake Park, we also include trips to Western hill, Dongchuang Red Land, Jianshui Ancient Town and Yunyang rice terrace. Our itineraries not only cover the usual tourist spots but also include local cultural experiences such as cooking Yunna cuisine, cycling Dianchi Lake, Watch and Feed the Red-Billed Gulls, experiencing local life in tea houses, and Boat on the wetland.

14 Days Kunming Itinerary for Seniors with Slow Travel Pace

Day 1-5 in Kunming

Day 1: Arrival and Free Time. After landing, you will be met by our friendly guide. Along with the driver, the guide will escort you to your hotel. Enjoy some free time to rest and recover from your journey.

Day 2: Kunming, head to Western Hills (Xishan Forest Park). Then enjoy panoramic views of Dianchi Lake and Kunming city. Visit Yuantong Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Kunming.

Day 3: Explore UNESCO World Heritage Site Stone Forest and Green Lake Park (Cuihu Park), visit Jinma Biji Archway.

Day 4: Wetland Leisure Cruise and Flower Market. For a more leisurely experience, aboard a boat cruise to admire the lake’s tranquil waters and surrounding mountain scenery at a comfortable pace. Join a fun hands-on Flower cake cooking class.

Day 5: Explore Guandu Ancient Town and Flower Market, visit Old Street.

Day 6: Kunming to Fuxian Lake (about 1 hour from Kunming), Travel to Fuxian Lake, visit the small Gushan Island, explore the Chengjiang Fossil Site (a UNESCO site). Head to Jianshui(about 2.5hours).

Day 7: Explore Jianshui Ancient Town. Visit Chaoyang Gate Tower (the “Mini Tian’anmen”), and explore the well-preserved traditional courtyard houses. visit the magnificent Jianshui Confucius Temple.

Day 8: Yuanyang Terrace Fields. Spend the day exploring the breathtaking Yuanyang Terrace Fields (about 2hours drive), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take leisurely walks along the terraces and experience the unique Hani ethnic culture. Stay overnight in Yuanyang.

Day 9: Yuanyang to Jianshui. On the way back to Jianshui, visit Beishan Pottery Workshop to discover the town’s traditional pottery-making craft. Return to Jianshui.

Day 10: Leisure in the Jianshui Ancient Town, discover the Zhu Family Garden, Visit Shuanglong Bridge and Return to Kunming.

Day 11: Relaxing Hot Springs, enjoy a relaxing day at a hot spring resort near Kunming. The Shilin Hot Springs or Anning Hot Springs are popular choices located within an hour's drive from the city.

Day 12: Dongchuan (about 3hours drive), Adventure Red Land, enjoy the and sunrise and sunset, visit Jinxiu Garden, explore the Luoxiagou.

Day 13: Dongchuan Red Land to Kunming, enjoy the sunrise before back to Kunming. and then, return to Kunming, if time permits, visit Jinma Biji Archway or with a relaxed walk along Nanping Pedestrian Street.

Day 14: Departure from Kunming. Finish the 14-day trip with wonderful experience.

14 Days Kunming Itinerary for Young Travelers

Day 1: Kunming Arrival. Arrive in Kunming and check into your hotel. Visit Green Lake Park and stroll around the lakeside. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant featuring Yunnan cuisine.

Day 2: Kunming, Visit the Stone Forest (Shilin), a UNESCO World Heritage Site with dramatic limestone formations. Return to Kunming and explore Nanping Pedestrian Street and a night market.

Day 3: Kunming, take a trip to the Western Hills and visit the Dragon Gate Grottoes, overlooking Dianchi Lake. Explore the Yunnan Ethnic Village to learn about minority cultures.

Day 4: Kunming to Dongchuan. Drive to Dongchuan Red Land. Capture the colorful patchwork fields, especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Overnight in Dongchuan.

Day 5: Dongchuan to Jiaozi Snow Mountain. Head to Jiaozi Snow Mountain for a scenic hike. Depending on the season, see wildflowers or snow-covered peaks. Overnight nearby.

Day 6: Jiaozi to Fuxian Lake, Travel to Fuxian Lake, one of China’s deepest freshwater lakes. Enjoy boating, cycling, or a lakeside stroll.

Day 7: Fuxian Lake to Dali, Explore the charming Dali Ancient Town and enjoy Bai-style architecture and local snacks.

Day 8: Dali, Visit the Three Pagodas and take a bike ride along Erhai Lake. Enjoy a sunset view from the lakeside.

Day 9: Dali, Take the cable car up Cangshan Mountain for panoramic views of Dali. Visit Xizhou Ancient Town to experience Bai culture and try their famous “Xizhou Baba” bread. Try the traditional Tie-dye in the Zhoucheng village.

Day 10: Dali to Shaxi, Travel to Shaxi Ancient Town, once an important stop on the Tea Horse Road. Explore the old market square and hike in Shibaoshan.

Day 11: Shaxi to Lijiang, Explore Lijiang Ancient Town (UNESCO site), wander along cobbled streets, and enjoy Naxi culture.

Day 12: Lijiang, Visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, ride the cable car to Glacier Park (weather permitting). Explore the Blue Moon valley. Evening, enjoy the Impression Lijiang Show directed by Zhang Yimou.

Day 13: Lijiang to Kunming, Return to Kunming by high-speed train or flight. Explore Flowers and Birds Market and try Yunnan specialties like “Crossing the Bridge Rice Noodles.”

Day 14: Kunming and Departure, Visit the Yunnan Provincial Museum or Yunnan Nationalities Village (depending on time). Transfer to the airport for departure.

Day 10: Bike riding along Erhai Lake. Visit Xizhou Town to admire the Bai minority architecture. Experience traditional Tie-dye in Zhoucheng Village.

Day 11: Visit the Chongsheng Temple and Three Pagodas, one of Dali’s most iconic landmarks. Take cable car up Cangshan Mountain for hiking with panoramic views. Evening free for exploring Dali's night markets.

Day 12: Morning, head to Tengchong (about 4-5 hours). Afternoon, visit Heshun Ancient Town, a settlement with more than 600 years of history. Its well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture harmoniously blends with Southeast Asian influences, creating a unique cultural landscape.

Day 13: Experience Rehai Scenic Area with its hot springs, including the famous "Big Rolling Pot”. exploration of Beihai Wetland, a volcanic barrier lake wetland

Day 14: Morning travel back to Kunming, Afternoon free for last-minute souvenir shopping.
