Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest gorges in China. It is renowned for its dramatic and rugged scenery. A place that one must hike at least once in your lifetime.

The gorge is situated on the upper reaches of the Jinsha River, with a total length of 17 kilometers and a winding road of 25 kilometers. It is divided into three sections: Upper Tiger Leaping, Middle Tiger Leaping, and Lower Tiger Leaping.

1 Day Tiger Leaping Gorge Hiking

Day1: Admire the First Bend of Yangtze River, and go to Tiger Leaping Gorge (Qiaotou - Tea & Horse Guest House) start your hike, enjoy the stunning views of the gorge.

You can either start walking the trail from here or drive a bit further to the Upper Gorge for a shorter hike. The upper part of the gorge offers stunning views and is a good option suited for families with kids or seniors. The trail is well-marked, and you'll pass by several viewpoints. This section is about a 2-3 hour round trip.

Stop at one of the guesthouses along the trail for a simple lunch. After lunch, continue exploring the gorge. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike down to the Middle Gorge where the river’s roar is the most intense. This part of the hike can be more challenging.

Head back to Qiaotou after finishing your hike. If you’re hiking back up from the Middle Gorge, give yourself extra time to make the climb.

After a full day of adventure, return to Lijiang for a well-deserved rest.

Day 1: Lijiang Arrival

On arrival in Lijiang, transfer to Tiger Leaping Gorge (about 2-3 hours), first start your hike from Qiaotou, the entrance to Tiger Leaping Gorge. Hike to Naxi Family Guesthouse (5km, about 2-3 hours) for a short rest and lunch. Afternoon, continue hiking through the steep sections and enjoy the stunning views of the gorge. Arrive at Halfway Guesthouse for an overnight stay. Enjoy the breathtaking sunset over the gorge.

Day 2: Lijiang Departure

Pass through some of the most dramatic and narrow parts of the trail. Afternoon, Reach Tina's Guesthouse, where you can have lunch and rest. Optionally, descend to the Middle Gorge to see the Tiger Leaping Stone up close before heading back to Qiaotou. back to Lijiang and departure.

Arrive in Lijiang. Transfer to Qiaotou (Tiger Leaping Gorge Trailhead) by car or van (about 2-3 hours). Start your hike from Qiaotou and hike to Naxi Family Guesthouse (5Km, about 2-3 hours). Continue hiking to the Tea Horse Guesthouse (5Km, about 2-3 hours). This section includes the challenging 28 bends, offering stunning views of the gorge. Overnight at the Tea Horse Guesthouse.

Day 2: Middle Section of the Tiger Leaping Gorge

After breakfast, continue hiking to Halfway Guesthouse (about 2-3 hours). Lunch at Halfway Guesthouse with breathtaking views from the deck. Hike to Tina's Guesthouse (about 2-3 hours). Explore the middle gorge area and hike down to the river if time permits. Overnight at Tina's Guesthouse.

Day 3: Lijiang Departure

Hike to the end of the trail at Walnut Garden (about 1-2 hours). Optionally, visit the Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge for a closer view of the river. Transfer back to Qiaotou by car. Return to Lijiang and departure.

Hike to the end of the trail at Walnut Garden (about 1-2 hours). Optionally, visit the Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge for a closer view of the river. Transfer to Haba Village by car (about 2-3 hours). Arrive in Haba Village. Acclimatize and explore the village. Prepare for the hike to Haba Snow Mountain. Overnight at a guesthouse in Haba Village.

Day 4: Haba Snow Mountain Hike

Start trek up Haba snow mountain to the summit-ascent base camp, the whole walk will take about 6-7hours, and the hike includes beautiful alpine forest, three meadows and beautiful alpine scenery. have a picnic lunch during the hike. Reach the base camp and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Return to Haba Village (about 4-6) or camp at the base camp if preferred. If returning to Haba Village, overnight at the guesthouse. If camping, enjoy the serene mountain environment.

Day 5: Lijiang Departure

After breakfast, back to Lijiang, Enjoy your time in Lijiang Old Town for a stroll and traditional Naxi (Nakhi)architecture, and departure.
