2-day or 3-day Guizhou Itinerary
Xijiang Qianhu Miao VillageIf you have only two to three days to travel in Guizhou, you will generally need to choose just one direction to explore. Centering your trip around the provincial capital, Guiyang: to the southwest lies the natural wonder of Huangguoshu Waterfall and the idyllic, painting-like Wanfenglin in Xingyi; to the southeast you will find the graceful Xiaoqikong Bridge and the paradise-like Xijiang Miao Village; to the east sit the ancient Zhenyuan Town and the Buddhist sacred site of Mount Fanjing; and to the north are Zunyi, a key location in China's historical turning points, and the awe-inspiring Chishui Danxia landforms. With such a constellation of attractions scattered across the province, Guizhou has every reason to welcome travelers of all kinds.
4-day or 5-day Guizhou Itinerary
Qingyan Ancient Town, GuiyangIf you have four to five days, then do not overlook Guiyang, which is often treated merely as a transit city. Qingyan Ancient Town and Jiaxiu Tower in Guiyang are actually excellent photo spots. Of course, having more time means you can explore more of Guizhou's attractions—for example, Zhaoxing Dong Village, Kaili Dong Villages, and Basha Miao Village in Qiandongnan; the Maling River Canyon in Xingyi; and Maotai Ancient Town in Zunyi. Some of these places will leave thrill-seekers in awe, while others offer the perfect escape for those craving relaxation.
Day 1: Begin your tour in Guiyang, and visit landmarks such as Jiaxiu Tower, Qingyan Ancient Town, and Hongfu Temple. In the afternoon, travel to Kaili, the capital of the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture.
Day 2: Explore the Kaili Folk Museum, which showcases the traditions and customs of local ethnic minorities, and visit nearby villages such as Langde Miao Village and Xijiang Miao Village, where you can learn about Miao culture and see unique stilted houses.
Day 3: Travel to Leishan County, and hike to the famous Basha Miao Village, known for its unique customs, such as the male hair buns and crossbow shooting. Then visit the nearby Datang Short-skirt Miao Village, where you can see traditional dances and handicrafts.
Day 4: Return to Guiyang and visit the Guiyang Confucius Temple, a well-preserved temple built in the Ming Dynasty. In the afternoon, stroll through Qianling Park, a beautiful park with a lake, gardens, and pavilions, before departing for your next destination.
7-day Guizhou Itinerary
Ground Opera, AnshunWhen you have about a week to explore Guizhou, you can try linking these routes into a loop. This helps reduce repeated travel and lets you visit more attractions, and the scenery along the way is charming enough to captivate you. From Guiyang to Anshun, in addition to the famous Huangguoshu Waterfall, there is also the ancient Tianlong Tunbao and the mysterious Ground (Nuo) Opera. From Anshun to Libo, there is the outdoor sports haven of the Getu River and the cutting-edge scientific achievement of the Five-Hundred-Meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST). From Libo to Congjiang, you’ll find the spectacular Jiabang Rice Terraces; from Leishan to Zhenyuan, the picturesque Wuyang River reveals its beauty… Passing through these places not only gives you a stop to rest, but also brings comfort during the long journey.
10-day or 14-day Guizhou Itinerary
ChongqingGuizhou is truly vast, and many attractions have more than enough to keep you for a day or two. Even with what seems like a generous 10+ day itinerary, it is still hard to explore every corner of Guizhou's charm in depth. But focusing solely within the province can also mean missing out on some of the fun.
Home to Buddhist sacred peaks, Tongren sits just west of the exquisite Fenghuang Ancient Town in Hunan; surrounded by thousands of peaks, Xingyi lies close to the magnificent Jiulong Waterfalls in Yunnan; historic Zunyi, gateway to the iconic Chishui Danxia, neighbors Chongqing, the River City and Fog Capital; and Congjiang, dotted with Miao and Dong villages to the south, borders Guilin, by water, by mountains, most lovely. These are all gems scattered around Guizhou—pearls waiting to be discovered.
